Making an Impact Through Science

As a high school student at Rye Neck with a deep interest in environmental science and biology, I’m exploring how scientific research can help address food insecurity both in my community of Mamaroneck and around the world. My work focuses on understanding the environmental and social systems that influence food access, and on developing meaningful, science-based approaches to improve them. Through school projects, community initiatives, and ongoing independent research, I hope to spark conversations about how young people can make a real impact.

My goal is for visitors to follow my journey and leave feeling informed, inspired, and motivated to engage with the scientific questions shaping our world.

How I Contribute Through My School

Many of the science-related experiences that shape my impact take place through school programs and events. I’ve had the chance to assist during STEM activities, support younger students as they explore new concepts, and participate in hands-on demonstrations that help make science more accessible and enjoyable.

STEM Activities I’ve Participated In

These are some of the hands-on STEM activities and school-based events I’ve been part of. Each one has given me the chance to help younger students experiment, problem-solve and build confidence while learning.

  • DIY Oobleck (Non-Newtonian Fluids)

  • Skittle Diffusion (color chromatography basics)

  • Density Lab (liquids + solids)

  • Slime and basic polymer science

  • Marshmallow Bridges (intro to engineering)

  • Dancing Foil (electron movement)

  • Static Electricity Challenges

  • Oil–Water Fireworks (immiscible liquids)

  • Classroom science-night demonstrations

  • After-school STEM projects and activities
